Frequently asked questions

Q.
Is this a laminate?

A.
No. We can quickly finish products that in the past have been painted or powder coated for decorative purposes. Using artwork, a photograph or graphic element, the image is digitized and printed as an exact replica on film. Then the product is sprayed with a base coat similar to what’s used in the automotive industry.

Q.
How expensive are the materials?

A.
They are less than 1 cent per square inch, which makes Final Finish® an economical alternative to conventional surface decorating. It’s ideal for both interior and exterior applications. Almost any surface can be enhanced, including plastic, aluminum, pottery, glass, metal and wood. Immersion Graphics owns the patent on all film, chemicals and equipment used in the Final Finish® process. We do not offer our printing technology or services to companies who are not licensed to use Final Finish®.

Q.
How many companies use Final Finish®?

A.
Currently, Immersion Graphics has 40 licensees that serve as direct manufacturers or subcontracted decorators. We began marketing the Finish process in 1996 and over the years have enjoyed success not only in the United States but also around the globe, including a strong presence in Asia. There are two decorative facilities in Taiwan, one in Thailand and 10 in China. Other international licensees operate in Japan, Portugal, Canada, Italy and Turkey. When you license Final Finish®, our team will help you find business opportunities in several industries including the outdoors, automotive, marine, electronics and housewares.

Q.
Is the process automated for high volumes?

A.
Yes. Every business need is different, and that’s why we pride ourselves on offering solutions tailored to fit your needs. Whether it’s customizing a one-off image for your product or setting up in-house processing capabilities for your business, we can design the immersion graphics experience ideal for your situation.

Q.
Is the process performance tested?

A.
Yes. Rigorous tests prove that decorated surfaces withstand sunlight, saltwater, jolts, scrapes and scars. Final Finish® has exceeded every standard set by the automotive industry. Experimentation and scientific testing is an ongoing process. We work closely with coating companies to develop new formulas for the best adhesion and durability. Field service is intensive, using in-depth maintenance and operational manuals, personal visits from our technical force, and seminars on new technical findings and production techniques.

Q.
How much training and support can we expect?

A.
We understand our job doesn’t stop when the product is delivered. We provide customer service and worldwide technical support, whether it’s onsite or through our remote system-monitoring network. Equipment installation and training usually lasts 1½ weeks. You receive one annual visit from our account manager and one technical visit. Scheduled training also is available at corporate headquarters in Columbus, Ga.

Q.
Do you develop custom images?

A.
Yes. We will design patterns to meet your business solutions and add value to your products. Give us six to 10 weeks to give you the perfect pattern, whether it’s to attract attention in the showroom or to avoid attention in the field.
